Medieval Ballads of Robyn Hode - April 2025

In conjunction with the University of Lincoln, as part of their annual Medieval Week, Lincoln Mystery Plays will be performing Medieval Ballads of Robyn Hode, a series of ballads about the myths of Robin Hood.

Accompanied by the Lincoln Mystery Players, these original medieval texts have been recently translated into modern English by TLJ Holt, a medieval scholar.

As the original tunes have not survived the subsequent centuries, we have set them to old folk tunes and our fabulous singers will be accompanied by the Lincoln Mystery Players on their medieval instruments.

In this way, we will re-tell the original medieval myths of the life and adventures of Robin Hood.

This production has been developed further from the Medieval Crime performances of 2024 which were shown at the Medieval Bishops' Palace in Lincoln.

With added verses and dramatisation and the addition of medieval instruments to accompany the ballads, we're sure you'll love them! As a figure still revered to this day, Robin Hood is certainly a character whose appeal endures.

Come along to be entertained and to find out more about the origins of this mysterious set of legends and what Robin Hood may have symbolised to medieval audiences.

Following our highly successful and acclaimed Holy Week Plays in 2024, we'll be continuing the story by focusing on the medieval mystery plays from the N-Town cycle that start with Jesus' resurrection and appearances to his friends and disciples.

Come along to be intrigued, entertained and, above all, uplifted by the Lincoln Mystery Plays production of the Resurrection Plays which are a medieval take on the events of the days immediately following Jesus’ death on the cross. Dating back to around 1450 and performed in modern         translation, these incredible medieval plays continue to be resonant, relevant and moving.

Our one hour performance includes medieval music and costumes.

No tickets are required but we will be most grateful for any donations you are able to make towards our charity.
